Child, Adolescent & Family Counseling
Helping children and families build connection, confidence, and calm.
When Your Child Struggles, the Whole Family Feels It
As parents, you want your child to be healthy, confident, and fulfilled, to value their abilities, show kindness, and live with purpose. But sometimes, life doesn’t follow the script we imagined.
When anxiety, anger, mood changes, or behavioral challenges start to interfere with daily life, it can leave everyone feeling discouraged and unsure of what to do next. That’s where we come in.
At Nourivida Wellness, we walk alongside families through the ups and downs of growing up. We help children, teens, and parents understand what’s happening beneath the surface, find language for emotions, and develop tools that bring peace back to the home.
How We Help
Our therapists meet children and families where they are combining evidence-based therapy with a compassionate, practical approach that honors each child’s unique wiring and temperament.
We work with children, teens, and families experiencing:
-
Anger, anxiety, or depression
-
Emotional dysregulation and mood swings
-
Behavioral challenges or defiance
-
ADHD and executive functioning struggles
-
Family conflict or co-parenting strain
-
Divorce, grief, or major life transitions
-
Sensory and emotional sensitivities
-
Social and peer difficulties
Our goal is to help your child better understand themselves while strengthening your relationship with them.
Areas of Focus
ADHD & Executive Functioning
ADHD affects more than focus, it impacts motivation, self-esteem, and relationships. We teach children and teens how to slow down their “race car brain,” manage impulsivity, and build skills in organization, problem-solving, and self-awareness. Parents receive practical guidance for setting structure and supporting progress at home.
Autism & Sensory Sensitivity
We support children who process the world differently, those with autism, sensory sensitivities, or heightened emotional awareness. Our work focuses on self-regulation, communication, and sensory balance, helping children understand their own needs and thrive in environments that once felt overwhelming.
Highly Sensitive Children
Some children feel everything deeply: sound, tone, energy, and emotion. We help highly sensitive children embrace their gifts while learning strategies to manage overstimulation and emotional intensity. Together, we help families create calm routines that support these beautifully tuned-in kids.
Strong-Willed & Oppositional Traits
Behind every “defiant” child is a strong spirit and an unmet need. We help families channel determination and independence into resilience, self-discipline, and empathy. By reframing behavior as communication, we build mutual respect, understanding, and a new sense of teamwork at home.
Twice-Exceptional (2e) Children
Giftedness and struggle often coexist. We help twice-exceptional children harness their strengths while addressing the challenges that come with learning differences, perfectionism, and emotional intensity. The goal: confidence without pressure and excellence without burnout.
Attachment & Relationship Building
When early experiences of trust or connection have been disrupted, children may struggle to form or maintain relationships. We guide parents in understanding attachment patterns and help children feel safe, seen, and valued rebuilding the foundation for secure connection.
Parent Coaching & Family Support
Children heal best when parents are supported, too.
We work closely with parents to understand their child’s patterns, manage stress, and apply new strategies at home. Through collaboration and education, families learn to communicate more effectively, set healthy boundaries, and foster connection even through hard seasons.
Parent coaching is available as part of therapy or as a standalone service for those wanting tools to navigate parenting challenges with confidence and calm.
Divorce & Blended Families
Divorce and family transitions can bring big emotions for both parents and children but they don’t have to define your story. We help families navigate new dynamics with grace, reducing conflict and creating stability for children adjusting to change. Together, we strengthen communication, emotional safety, and shared values across homes.
What to Expect in Therapy
Counseling is a collaborative process where you’ll learn, grow, and explore at your own rhythm.
Together, we’ll:
-
Identify patterns that create distress.
-
Develop coping tools and emotional literacy.
-
Work toward clarity, confidence, and connection.
Recommended rhythm: weekly 45-minute sessions for the first eight weeks, followed by reevaluation of frequency based on your goals and progress.
For those who wish, Yvette McDonald also offers Christian Counseling, integrating prayer, scripture, and faith-based reflection for clients who want to align healing with spiritual growth.
